Could Caps be in the Hunt for Another Goaltender?
The Chicago Blackhawks have parted ways with Stanley Cup-winning netminder Antti Niemi after an arbitrator's decision to award him with a $2.75 million contract. The Hawks said "thanks but no thanks" and signed veteran ex-Star Marty Turco instead. Could the Capitals be in the mix as a possible new home for the talented Finnish puck-stopper? It would be very odd for them to pursue Niemi with Varly, Neuvi and Holtby in the system now. If nothing else, Niemi demonstrated that a young, talented goal tender can backstop a team to the Cup -- and the Caps have three.
I'd say the Caps need Niemi like a hole in the head. No offense to Niemi but I'm not sure he's really any better than the kids we have in goal right now.
