Everyone knows how Hockey Mom admires siblings in the NHL, especially when they're paired up on the same team.
But NEVER at the expense of my Washington Capitals, which is exactly what happened tonight as those pesky Kostisyn brothers (Andrei and Sergei) turned on the heat as the Canadiens beat the Caps in a 5-4 high-scoring affair.
Alexander Semin scored 2 for the Caps and Flash (Tomas Fleischmann) and Michael Nylander added one apiece for a final count of 4 goals for the visitors. Unfortunately, the scoreboard did not reflect an impressive performance by Caps' goalie Brent Johnson. Despite several magnificent stops including several high glove saves that reminded me of King Kong grabbing airplanes out of the sky, the Canadiens saw 2 goals from Tomas Plekanec, one from Robert Lang and a tally each from the brothers Andrei and Sergei.
The loss also earned Habs boss Guy Carbonneau a spot as assistant coach at the Match de Etoile (All-Star game) in his home arena. Caps' coach Bruce Boudreau expressed his frustration over a second loss in 2 nights (including the winning Montreal goal - a result of Milan Jurcina losing the puck in his skate), saying the loss was a result of playing "dumb hockey."
Next week is going to see some tough competition for the boys and let's hope that these 2 losses can get them back on track to face the likes of the Edmonton Oilers, the hated Pittsburgh Penguins and the Eastern conference leading Boston Bruins. Now is the time to unleash the fury for sure....
